rTMS

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

What is rTMS?

This non-invasive therapy uses electromagnetic technology to stimulate brain neurons. It is used for conditions including depression, anxiety, chronic pain, PTSD, personality disorders, tinnitus, and mild cognitive impairment.

The treatment aims to enhance connectivity between brain regions. Over several weeks, daily electromagnetic impulses gently modify brain activity — offering an option for people who have tried conventional treatments.

How it works

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation involves delivering gentle magnetic pulses through a specially designed coil placed near the scalp. These pulses specifically target brain regions linked to mood regulation, pain perception, addiction, or motor control.

By stimulating these areas, brain activity is supported and new neural connections can develop while existing ones are strengthened. This process, called neuroplasticity, is fundamental to how the treatment works.

The therapy is evidence-based and can be paired with general therapy. This combination leverages the brain’s increased plasticity, supporting more meaningful engagement in the therapeutic process.

Pairing rTMS with general therapy often supports better outcomes than either on its own, as the magnetic stimulation helps prepare the brain for therapeutic work.

rTMS in combination with Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy

Pairing Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation with Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (PAT) offers a combined approach to mental-health care, drawing on the strengths of both modalities.

The medicine used in PAT works by promoting synaptic growth and connectivity, and is administered under medical supervision.

When used together, rTMS may complement the effects of the medicine, supporting improvements in mood and cognitive function.

This combination is intended to pair the supported symptom relief of medically supervised therapy with the neural benefits of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation — one option among several for people with treatment-resistant conditions, determined with your care team.
